Sicilian Circle
a progressive duple minor circle dance for as many as will
Set-up:
Form a two-couple set with another couple. Stand in a circle with the other two-couple sets so that you can walk either clockwise or counter-clockwise past the other couple in your set and onto the next couple.
The Dance:
Rights and Lefts across set and back again. (16 counts)
Balance your partner. Two-hand turn your partner to the left once around. (16 counts)
Ladies chain across and back. (16 counts)
Forward and back, forward and pass through onto the next couple. (16 counts)
Source material: Dick’s quadrille call-book, and ball-room prompter (New York, 1878)
Notes
Rights and Lefts: Cross over the set taking right hands with your opposite. Ladies will pass in between the gentlemen. Upon reaching the opposite side, partners grasp left hands and do a half left-hand turn, finishing in the opposite couple’s places. (The gentlemen will need to do a small half turn to face into the set.) This is a half right and left. Complete the step by crossing over again in the same manner, each couple finishing in their proper places.
Forward and pass through: Pass right shoulders with your opposites, ladies passing on the inside of the set, gentlemen on the outside.
